Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 19 (ANI): Two persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing one tonne of copper worth Rs 15 lakh from a factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, police said on Thursday.
According to officials, on September 7, the suspects allegedly stole approximately one tonne of copper from the factory after taking the factory guard hostage.
The estimated value of stolen material is around Rs 15-20 lakh.
Following the complaint, the Sihani Gate police formed a team to investigate the incident and subsequently arrested two individuals. During interrogation, one of the suspects, identified as Nitin, revealed that he had initially scoped out the factory, and later, his accomplices carried out the robbery.
“The robbery was executed by taking the factory guard hostage on September 7. The accused first did recce of the factory and, along with his accomplices, carried out the robbery,” said Ghaziabad Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar.
“The arrested individuals revealed about the incident and mentioned that a lot of goods are still with other thieves in Delhi,” added DCP Kumar.
The police said that the accused have around 80 prior cases of theft and robbery registered against them. The absconding criminals are also involved in interstate thefts.
“A team has been set up to apprehend them, and they will be arrested soon. The value of the recovered goods is estimated at Rs 15-20 lakh,” DCP Kumar said.
