Moreh (Manipur) [India], September 2 (ANI): Assam Rifles has foiled cross-border smuggling of contraband items at multiple places along Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) in Manipur’s Moreh, officials said on Monday.
During the operations carried out on September 1 and 2, areca nuts worth Rs 54,000 in the international market was recovered. The officials said that the recovered items were handed over to Custom Department, Moreh for further investigation.
As per the officials, during a routine border guarding drills Assam Rifles teams in general areas Pangal Basti, Border Pillar 76, Border Pillar 78 and H Munnom Village of Moreh along IMB, teams thwarted various illegal crossing attempts of suspicious individuals with contraband items entering the India.
On August 29, Assam Rifles along with the Indian Army, Border Security Force and Manipur police recovered arms and ammunition and war-like stores in the Sekmajin area of the Kakching district.
The recovered items included one Sten Machine Gun, two 9mm Pistols, two single barrel guns, ten Grenades, ammunition and war like stores in Sekmaijin Area. (ANI)
